California fuchsia 'Hollywood Flame' is a showy perennial that grows 2-3' tall with delicate feathery leaves and red flowers. 'Hollywood Flame' is hummingbird flower that grows naturally in the hills around Los Angeles. It has done fine here, surviving to about 10 deg just fine.
In the wild it grows in rock outcropping and seasonal creek banks. You would find it mixed with Asclepias fascicularis, Elymus condensatus, Corethrogyne filaginifolia, Artemisia californica, Diplacus longiflorus, Encelia californica, Eriogonum cinereum, Keckiella cordifolia, Stipa pulchra, Penstemon heterophyllus var. australis, Salvia mellifera, Salvia spathacea, Sisyrinchium bellum, Solanum xanti, and Venegasia carpesioides (and there are others).
In a seasonal seep, among boulders, in a blue oak woodland, are Mimulus guttatus, Asclepias fascicularis, and Thalictrum fendleri.
A great plant for late summer flowers.
