Pine bluegrass clumps are 2 ft. tall and 6 inches across. This very fine grass is dark green and ranges from the coast of Ca. to Wash.. Pine bluegrass, One sided Blue Grass, Needle grass grows in deserts, mountains and valleys in between. If it goes dry, it goes dormant. Use on dry slopes under pines mixed with Monardella, Zauschneria, Stipas and Lessingia.
Syn. Poa secunda ssp. secunda, Jepson Manual is the only work that uses this nomenclature. All other works, from Intermountain, through Flora of the Pacific Northwest, Flora of San Luis Obispo and Munzs Flora of California use Poa scabrella. I can find no cross reference to the Jepson Manual nomenclature. Other syn.
