A flat perennial with 3" long 1/2"wide dark green leaves. Bright lavender-blue flowers in clusters on a 4-6" spire. Best for moist spots (not wet spots). Not as drought tolerant in interior heat. It will tolerate part shade in interior and sun near coast. We've been successful here with regular water and full sun. Grows at middle elevations in the Sierras north to Idaho and east to Nev. We have seen this one growing at 7800' in a marshy meadow. (This is a wetland species.) I like this plant as it has caused no problems and flowered every year. Easy to grow in garden conditions. It looks very, very similar to P.heterodoxus. (The difference is a few spots of resin on the flower spike of P.heterodoxus. and P.heterodoxus grows in dry sun.)
