(Berberis repens)A 1-3ft evergreen shrub. It can spread by rhizomes or above ground. It has 2inches crinkly, spiny, gray green leaves. It grows from N. Calif. to B.C. to N.Dakota. An excellent ground cover or foundation plant. It has yellow flowers and blue berries (birds like). It is normally deer proof but it has been eaten in bad areas. This plant has been useful in cold areas as a groundcover. It will become real drought tolerant in the mountains or E. U.S.. It can have showy leaves in the fall. It has done well here, The Living Museum in Bakersfield and in Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
