Erysimum menziesii is a one foot high and wide perennial with bright yellow flowers, native on sand dunes, Ft. Bragg to Humboldt, on the rare list. Very easy to grow. We began to think of it as a weed because it is all over the nursery, (back in the good old days when rainfall for the year was 25 inches). Menzies' Wallflower always seems to be in flower. It has been stable in perennial or annual form in the ground here for years, until the last five years, when the rainfall has decreased 25% - 50% in total amount per year, and/or is not falling in a normal pattern. This wallflower is not aggressive but one or two will usually seed back in if the first plant dies. Hardy to somewhere around 0F., -20C.
Erysimum menziesii tolerates sand, seasonal flooding and deer.
Erysimum menziesii is great for a butterfly garden.
