Native throughout much of San Diego Co.. In De Luz it is under Adenostoma fasciculatum and Rhus ovata, in the Jamul area it is mixed with Juniperus calif. and Keckiella ternata. Calochortus are not for everyone. They need wet winters and dry summers. Drainage must be good, but they live in clay soils, they need good nutrition but hate organic matter. They live in openings of chaparral, but not where there is heavy brush, nor in the larger openings. We can contract grow them, and we sometimes have them on hand. They take 2-3 years to make a flowering plant. In the wild they can live for decades (at least).
