The Western Gray Squirrel is common in wester forests and woodlands. Their food varies between conifer, bay, and oak seeds, fungi(mushrooms, why do you think their so squirrelly?) and tasty greens.
Our Western Tree Squirrels can be big, sometimes approaching the size of a house cat. They live their whole live (about 7 years) in one grove. We only have problems with them on a few plant species. The ground squirrels, mice and Chipmunks cause far more problems. They are protected in Washington State.
