Artemisia californica ' Canyon Gray', is a low spreader. This silver ground cover is drought tolerant and deer resistant. Leaves are also fragrant. It can be less than 1ft high and about 4ft across. Use as a gray ground cover that likes sun near coast, cool sun or part shade inland.
Canyon Gray tolerates clay, if it dry. Canyon gray also tolerates beach sand but will be smaller in sand. It is very drought tolerant compared to non-native plants, almost deer proof, and makes a gray fuzzy mat 1ft tall.
It's fav spot would be in afternoon shade or high filtered shade inland, full sun near the coast.
Its best if it is mowed or trimmed every 3-5 years. This one will flow over walls well and is great with boulders such as serpentine or red-black lava for contrast.
