'La Panza' manzanita is a hybrid of
Arctostaphylos silvicola and probably
A. edmundsii 'Carmel Sur' . The foliage starts out a velvety gray and becomes a smooth clean gray with age.
This selection was a seedling discover in Las Pilitas nursery's gardens. We decided to grow it because of its small size and clean gray foliage and named it for a local mountain range. We've only started growing it in 2003, so far it is a neat mound of gray green that grows in full sun, needs little water and no care. It is a three feet or so, high shrub and is attracting notice from the few customers that wander by its remote spot. Big enough to not be stepped on, small enough to fit.
