Diplacus puniceus

Red monkey flower is a two foot high evergreen shrub with red flowers most of the year. The species ranges from Los Angeles county to San Diego county, California. Diplacus puniceus likes partial shade inland, full sun near the coast. Do not over water or the plants will elongate. Along the coast water first month or so only, then forget. Needs good drainage. It is not very cold tolerant, has frozen at 27 degrees F., to the ground at 22 degrees F., and has recovered from temperatures down to the low teens, but not well. Where happy a very nice bush .
