Sisyrinchium californicum, Yellow-Eyed Grass, is a small perennial about 8 inches tall that forms a little clump of iris leaves with bunches of yellow flowers that appear May through June. Yellow-Eyed Grass likes moist areas, but will become drought tolerant in a conventional garden.
Yellow-Eyed Grass grows in the wild along the coast ranges. Yellow-Eyed Grass likes full sun near the coast, but does fine in the interior with a little afternoon shade and regular water.
Mix with Erigeron 'Wayne Roderick', Penstemon 'Margarita BOP' and Zauschneria 'Bert's Bluff' for a sunny border next to a lawn or walkway.
Sisyrinchium californicum tolerates seaside conditions, alkaline soil, clay, seasonal flooding and deer.
