Similar to Mimulus cardinalis but flowers are rose red or pink and it needs more water than Mimulus cardinalis. 20" tall. Native to middle to high elevations of the Sierra Nevada and much of the higher elevations of the Rockies. It's not drought tolerant nor does it like lower elevations. It has trouble with summer root rot in moist hot summer locations. It needs a slow cool down combined with snow. A few warm days and it comes out of dormancy and freezes. Excellent plant in a mountain spring, stream bank or below a snow field where there is summer moisture and day temperatures below 85 deg..
