Encelia actoni
Mountain bush sunflower.
Mountain bush sunflower is a perennial shrub, 4 ft. tall with yellow daisy flowers. Grey foliage and yellow flowers stand out in a garden. Needs sun and very limited water after the first summer.
Grows with Atriplex canescens, Chaenactis spp., Haplopappus linearifolius, Cucurbita foetidissima, Forestiera neomexicana, and Prunus andersoni, in arroyos of joshua tree woodland,
Also grows with Ephedra californica, Eriogonum fasciculatum polifolium, Isomeris arborea, Yucca whipplei, Brickellia nevinii, and Opuntia treleasei, in blue oak woodland (minus the oaks, which were burned many years ago, when the habitat was burned by the miners; so much easier to see the gold on the ground. In fact, from tree ring studies, between 1850 and 1865, there were 13 fires in the area.
