Monterey Cypress, Cupressus macrocarpa is an evergreen tree to 50', can be clipped as an 8 ft. hedge, and best within sight of the coast (west or east). C. macrocarpa is native to the point at the south end of Monterey Bay, is susceptible to canker when grown with drip irrigation, and is valued best as a coastal windbreak. This tree has survived ok in the interior in sandy soil with little or no water. It loves to be washed off once a week.
